Theory: Backup is Another Clone Plus Metadata Dump

Git objects backup with git clone --mirror. Issues, PRs, packages, and CI logs need the forge’s dump. HA is keeping both classes online.

Invariants

  1. A mirror clone is not a point-in-time of the issue tracker.
  2. Geo-redundant Git needs object replication and DB replication.
  3. DR tests are restores, not only snapshots.

What can break

  • Backing up /data/git and forgetting the DB.
