Theory: Notifications are Observers of Rollout Events

Triggers fire on events (step, abort, promote). Templates format Slack messages. Scope is namespace or cluster.

Invariants

  1. Mis-scoped notifications spam or miss.
  2. Secrets for Slack tokens are cluster secrets, not Git plaintext.
  3. Troubleshooting is “did the event fire” then “did the webhook accept.”
Rollout event → trigger → template → Slack webhook

What can break

  • One cluster-scoped subscription for every namespace.
